Atoll profile
FaafuFaafu Atoll.
A small, exclusive atoll with vibrant coral reefs and superb visibility.
Destination brief
Faafu Atoll is a small, lightly developed atoll offering exclusivity and tranquility. Known for its vibrant coral reefs and clear visibility, the atoll attracts divers and snorkellers alike. A handful of luxury resorts, including Filitheyo Island Resort, provide authentic Maldivian charm with excellent diving directly from the island.
Faafu is administratively known as Northern Nilandhe Atoll (Nilandhe Atholhu Uthuruburi). In 2017 it briefly made international headlines when a speculative Saudi-led investment proposal to lease the atoll for a large-scale economic zone was reported; the project was never formalised and the atoll has since retained its low-density, single-resort character.
