At a glance

Before you go.

Bali packs an improbable number of holidays onto one island. The south-west coast runs from the beach clubs of Seminyak through the surf and coffee culture of Canggu; the Bukit peninsula below it turns to limestone cliffs and world-class breaks at Uluwatu. Nusa Dua and Sanur hold the calm, reef-protected water families look for, and Jimbaran sits minutes from the airport. Inland, Ubud is a different island entirely — river gorges, rice terraces, temples and the centre of Bali’s wellness economy.

When to go, entry and routing.

Bali and the islands beyond

East of Bali, the three Gili Islands are car-free, reef-fringed and reachable by fast boat, and Lombok offers the surf bays and volcano trekking Bali has largely built over. Together they make Bali a natural first leg rather than the whole trip.

A coast-and-Ubud stay is a practical starting point for a Bali route. A Maldives extension needs a separate international flight plan and a fresh weather check: Bali’s drier April–October period differs from the Maldives’ drier December–April season. Before travel, check Indonesia’s visa rules for your passport and Bali’s provincial tourist levy requirements. Our team can confirm the hotels and connections for your dates.

When is the best time to visit Bali?

April to October is generally the drier period in Bali; November to March is wetter. Seasonal patterns are becoming less predictable, so check the forecast and sea conditions for your dates. Plan flexibility into outdoor days and onward island transfers instead of assuming rain will be brief or room rates will always be lower.

Where should I stay in Bali?

Seminyak and Canggu for dining, beach clubs and a lively base; Ubud for rice terraces, spas and culture; Nusa Dua and Sanur for calm swimming and families; Uluwatu for clifftop drama and surf; Jimbaran for a short transfer and a quiet bay. Most itineraries split between a coast and Ubud.

Can Bali be combined with the Gilis, Lombok or the Maldives?

Yes, if your nights and transport options fit. The Gilis can be reached by boat from Bali or Lombok, but check the operator, sea conditions and onward transfers for your dates. A Maldives leg needs a separate international flight plan and its own weather check; its drier season differs from Bali’s. Our team can confirm the sequence.
