The resort
Set high above the Ayung River valley at Payangan near Ubud, Hanging Gardens of Bali is a rainforest resort of private villas and suites, each with its own heated infinity pool. Built between 2003 and 2005 by more than 4,000 Balinese craftspeople using indigenous materials and traditional techniques, it was engineered to settle into the jungle rather than clear it — not one tree was felled during construction. Its twin-tiered heated infinity pool, drawn from the island's rice-terrace geometry, appears to hang above the canopy.
