The resort
Filitheyo Island Resort is the only resort in Faafu Atoll, on a 21-hectare island 118 km from Malé and a 35-minute seaplane flight away. A healthy house reef surrounds the island, with seven exit points, so snorkelling and diving start straight from the beach. The 118 villas are spread among coconut palms and garden: 80 Superior Beach Villas, 15 Deluxe Beach Villas, seven Family Villas with an interconnecting door for up to six guests, and 16 Water Villas built over the house reef. Each villa has a king bed, a sitting area, a terrace or sundeck and a bathroom with bathtub and shower. The Main Restaurant, a sand-floored pavilion with a traditional dhoni boat at the centre of its buffet, serves international dishes at every meal, and the Main Bar serves drinks under a palm-fringed canopy. At the tip of the island, the Sunset Restaurant and its swim-up bar look over the pool towards the Water Villas, and beach or villa-deck dinners can be arranged. Six spa suites in a palm garden offer modern and traditional therapies, and the Filitheyo Dive Center leads trips to Faafu's reefs, channels and wrecks. Excursions include island hopping, dolphin and shark watching, safaris, sunset, deep-sea and line fishing, and seasonal manta and whale-shark trips. All-inclusive, full-board and half-board meal plans are available.
