Updated 2026 · Wet season

The Maldives in October: Still wet and cheap — but the corner starts to turn.

October is the last full wet-season month, and it carries the season’s low pricing and quiet islands. Rainfall is still high — this is not yet the postcard dry season — but the month is a transition, and the weather frequently improves as it goes on.

The verdict

Should you book October?

October is the last full wet-season month, and it carries the season’s low pricing and quiet islands. Rainfall is still high — this is not yet the postcard dry season — but the month is a transition, and the weather frequently improves as it goes on.

It is a calculated-gamble month. Book October and you keep wet-season prices; arrive in the back half and you have a real chance of catching the monsoon’s retreat, with calming seas and lengthening sunny spells. The manta season at Hanifaru Bay is winding down but not over, and the surf still has life in it.

In October's favour

  • Low-season rates continue
  • Quiet islands
  • Weather often improves through the second half of the month

The trade-offs

  • Rainfall still high
  • Diving visibility not yet back to dry-season clarity

What is the weather like in the Maldives in October?+

October falls in the wet season (Hulhangu easing late month). Daily air temperatures run 26-30°C, the sea sits around 28°C, and rainfall averages 195mm across about 15 days. Sunshine averages 7 hours a day and humidity sits near 83%. Rain in the Maldives falls as short, heavy showers rather than all-day grey — bright spells break up most days even in the wettest months.

Is October a good time to visit the Maldives?+

Still wet and cheap — but the corner starts to turn. October is the last full wet-season month, and it carries the season’s low pricing and quiet islands. Rainfall is still high — this is not yet the postcard dry season — but the month is a transition, and the weather frequently improves as it goes on.

How much does it rain in the Maldives in October?+

October averages 195mm of rain over roughly 15 rainy days — high — expect daily rain, falling in heavy tropical bursts. The Maldives spans 870km north to south, so the far north and far south can diverge by a week or two on monsoon timing; central-atoll figures are quoted here.

What can you see underwater in the Maldives in October?+

Dive visibility in October is fair. Tail end of the Hanifaru Bay manta season. Whale sharks year-round at South Ari Atoll. Reefs recovering visibility as the season turns.

How expensive is the Maldives in October?+

On a 1-5 scale where 5 is the year's peak, October sits at a price level of 2 and a crowd level of 2. This is one of the better-value windows of the year — resort rates run well below the dry-season peak.
