The resort
Kurumba Maldives occupies Vihamanaafushi Island in North Malé Atoll, reached by a 10-minute speedboat or 20-minute dhoni from Velana International Airport. Opened in 1972, it is recognised as the country's first resort and remains under Universal Resorts management, with 180 rooms and villas spread across a compact 36-acre island. Guests can choose from Bed and Breakfast, Half Board, Full Board or All-Inclusive plans covering seven restaurants and four bars, with cuisines ranging from Italian and Pan-Asian to Indian and Middle Eastern. The property pairs a short transfer with a full resort amenity set: two freshwater pools, a tennis court, a fitness centre, a spa, a PADI-accredited dive operation and a children's club, making it a practical option for families, couples and short-stay pre- or post-holiday visitors arriving from Malé. Kurumba also retains a well-regarded house reef suited to novice and intermediate snorkellers and divers, with vibrant coral and diverse marine life.
