Sangelis own traditional cultural music group brings drums, dances and music to the bar! Boduberu, is the big drums of the Maldives, a part of its culture and is the heart of traditional Maldivian music. • The iconic big drum is made of wood from the coconut tree trunk, and the head is made from manta ray skin in the olden days. Today, the boduberu head is made from goatskin. • The traditional Boduberu performance is a combined dance and song to the rhythm of these drums. The routine starts with a slow beat and will slowly lead to a hyperactive, frenetic, and tumultuous beat. • When the beat upsurges and the song reaches a crescendo, the movements of the dancers in the group become wild and frantic. Some of them may even fall into a trance. • This as well has evolved over the years however, and today, meaningful songs, written in the local Dhivehi language, are also sung to the rhythm of the bodu beru drums. ​

Join us for an incredible experience as we search for the majestic manta ray! On the bucket list of almost all snorkellers and scuba divers, these magnificent creatures can have wing spans of up to 7 meters! Feeding on plankton, which can be found close to the surface of the ocean, swimming with manta rays is a truly awe-inspiring experience. Seasonal: available between December and April only!

The easiest way to snorkelling “dry” Explore the resort’s stunning reefs from the comfort of a semi submarine. The upper body of the vessel remains above the sea surface at all times while the bottom section is 1.3 meters below the water. The large windows of the underwater hull allow you to enjoy spectacular views of the marine life, creating the illusion of a real submarine dive. Max 6 People.

The underwater world around the Maldives is simply spectacular. Join us on this snorkeling adventure with our guides to visit some local reefs and see what we find beneath the surface. With regular sightings of turtles, clown fish, moray eels and even octopus, it is amazing the variety of fish and coral species that are packed into these trips.

Join us for a cruise on-board a traditional Maldivian style Dhoni boat as we head out into the Atoll to search for dolphins. There are 2 type of dolphins in the Maldives that we regularly see: – Spinner dolphins – Bottlenose dolphins Spinner dolphins are generally in larger pods, and are very playful. This activity is not part of the all-inclusive package.

Snorkel during the sunset, and discover a whole new world. See how the reef, and its inhabitants change as darkness descends. Beautiful feather stars open up, feeding in the currents, vivid green parrot fish can be seen sleeping amongst the coral blocks, and the jacks and snappers of the reef dart around hunting for food. Sunset also brings some of the reefs larger inhabitants into shallower water, with large nurse sharks, sting rays and humphead parrot fish all regularly seen on our night adventures.

Turtles may not be the fastest or strongest animals, but that doesn’t stop them from being one of nature’s toughest survivors and simply awesome! Join this 2 hour adventure to our turtle bay, where one of our experienced guides will help find these beautiful marine creatures.

This is the perfect introductory session for those who have never tried scuba diving before and want to learn. If you find that you’ve taken to diving like a ‘fish to water’, subsequent dives can be arranged. The maximum depth for the House Reef and all subsequent dives is 12 meters. How to book? The warm calm waters of the Indian Ocean, combined with the fabulous marine life around OBLU at Sangeli makes the resort a fantastic pace to learn to dive. Discover the amazing underwater world, and get PADI certified at the same time. The PADI Scuba Diver Course is ideal for those short on time, as it allows the student to get certified in just 2 days. Stand up paddle boarding is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, it offers a great work out, is easy to learn and is a fantastic way to explore the turquoise waters of our lagoon. Guests are entitled to use the SUP for up to 60 minutes per day as part of the All Inclusive Plan.
