The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Fari Islands is built around a deliberate idea — "the circle of island life" — and the architecture follows it literally. The resort spreads across more than one island in North Malé Atoll: a dedicated Culinary Island, the Grand Sunset Beach, and Fari Marina Village, a shared harbour precinct that gives guests somewhere to walk to in the evening. That is unusual in the Maldives, where most resorts are a single island with no destination beyond their own restaurants. Accommodation runs to 100 villas, beach and overwater, every one with a private infinity pool and a sundeck. Categories step up from Lagoon and Ocean Pool Villas through sunset-facing beach villas to one- and two-bedroom configurations, topping out at The Ritz-Carlton Estate — four villas in a secluded beach cove sharing a large sundeck, dining pavilion and infinity pool. Interiors are by Kerry Hill, in a restrained modernist idiom. Seven restaurants and bars are genuinely distinct rather than variations on a theme: Italian at the overwater La Locanda, modern Cantonese at Summer Pavilion, theatrical chef's-table Japanese at IWAU, Levantine and North Indian under Bedouin-tent canopies at Arabesque, barefoot Mediterranean at Beach Shack, day-to-night dining and DJ sets at EAU Bar around the resort's round infinity pool, and Asian street food at Tum Tum in the marina village. The Ritz-Carlton Spa is a ring-shaped pavilion over the lagoon with nine treatment rooms, a relaxation lounge, salon and boutique, using organic Bamford products; the treatment rooms are oriented to the cardinal directions. Every guest is assigned an Aris Meeha, the resort's 24-hour dedicated island butler. Families are well served by the Ritz Kids club for ages four to twelve, and the resort runs a genuine conservation programme — coral restoration, a Land and Sea experience, and a Visiting Hero series that brings scientists and conservationists on-island. Access is by on-demand speedboat, running 24 hours, over the 45 km from Velana International Airport — so arrival is not tied to a seaplane schedule.

La Locanda runs from artisan Italian coffee and a world-inspired breakfast in the morning through to authentic Italian cooking at night — homemade pasta and signature dishes paired with a proper wine list. Guests choose between overwater tables and an alfresco terrace. Of the seven venues it is the one that covers a full day rather than a single service.
Summer Pavilion is the resort's modern Cantonese room, set in a lantern-inspired space. Signature plates include stir-fried Maldivian lobster and Peking duck, matched with Chinese teas and wine, and there is a chef's tasting menu for guests who want the kitchen to lead. Dinner only, and closed on Tuesdays — worth checking against a short stay.
IWAU means "to celebrate" in Japanese, and the format is built for it: two lively chef's tables with interactive service rather than a conventional dining room. The kitchen works locally sourced seafood and premium meats, backed by a curated list of Japanese sake and rare whiskies. Two seatings a night, and capacity is small.
EAU Bar wraps the resort's round infinity pool — the property's most photographed feature — and shifts character across the day. Light bites, cocktails and Japanese-inspired lunches while the sun is up; inventive plates, signature cocktails and DJ sets after dark. It is the social centre of the resort rather than a destination restaurant.
Beach Shack is barefoot dining a few steps from the water, serving bright Mediterranean cooking with drinks and themed evenings drawn from iconic coastal destinations. It is the least formal of the resort's full restaurants and the easiest to drop into straight off the beach.
Arabesque takes its design cue from a Bedouin tent — characteristic shapes, smooth textures and the vivid colours of Lebanon. The kitchen serves authentic Levantine and North Indian dishes in modern presentations. Open for both lunch and dinner, which few of the speciality venues here are.
Tum Tum sits in Fari Marina Village, the shared harbour precinct, and serves Asian street food — bao buns, signature noodles — in a relaxed open-air setting with food trucks nearby offering global bites. Lunch only. It is the venue that makes the marina worth walking to, and the most sociable place to eat on the property.
The Ritz-Carlton Spa is a ring-shaped pavilion set over the turquoise lagoon — a closed circle echoing the resort's "circle of island life" concept. Nine treatment rooms, including a dedicated spa suite, are each oriented to one of the cardinal directions, and the complex also holds a relaxation lounge, a salon and a boutique. Treatments use the organic Bamford skincare collection.
