The Westin Maldives Miriandhoo Resort sits on a coral island in Baa Atoll — the Maldives' first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve — and its location is the single strongest reason to book it. Baa Atoll holds over 250 coral species and one of the largest concentrations of manta rays and whale sharks anywhere in the world. Hanifaru Bay, where mantas gather in feeding frenzies dense enough to snorkel among, is 18 km away; the season runs June to October, which makes this resort a genuinely different proposition in the months when much of the Maldives is selling weather rather than wildlife. The resort holds 70 villas and suites — 41 on the island and 29 overwater — every one with a private pool and uninterrupted ocean views from its own deck. Sizes are generous: Beach Villas with Pool at 140 sqm, Island Suites at 164 sqm, Overwater Villas and Heavenly Overwater Villas at 194 sqm, a two-bedroom beach villa at 297 sqm, and the Heavenly Beach Residence at 508 sqm for six. Five dining venues cover the range without overreaching: Japanese and kaiseki at the overwater Pearl, all-day international beside the pool at Island Kitchen, Asian street food from a live kitchen at the beachfront Hawker, plus the Sunset Bar for cocktails and tapas as the light goes and a Beach Bar through the day. Heavenly Spa by Westin is the wellness anchor, ringed by ocean views, alongside a fitness centre, tennis and the resort's own produce gardens. Sustainability is not decorative here — the property cultivates fresh produce on-island and participates in marine protection work at Hanifaru Bay. Access is by shared seaplane from Velana International Airport, with a domestic flight plus speedboat available as an alternative routing.
