The Maldives in July: Wet-season weather, but holiday demand lifts prices.

July is a curious month. The weather is still firmly wet-season — breezy, showery, with the south-west monsoon in full effect — but it is also when European and Gulf school holidays begin, and demand rebounds. Rates rise back into mid-season territory even though the climate has not changed from cheaper June.

What the Maldives costs in July.

July’s weather is the same south-west monsoon as June — but its prices aren’t. European and Gulf school holidays rebound demand sharply, lifting rates back into mid-season territory, with family-friendly islands moving first. If your dates are flexible, June or September buy near-identical conditions for noticeably less; if you are fixed to July, book early because family villa categories sell first.

TierWhat that buysJul per night
Guesthouse · local islandBoutique guesthouse on Maafushi, Dhigurah or Ukulhas — public-ferry or shared-speedboat access$90–160
4★ resortPrivate-island beach villa, B&B — most sell all-inclusive-led packages$450–750
5★ resortOverwater or premium beach villa — speedboat or seaplane transfer$750–1,400
Ultra-luxurySoneva / Cheval Blanc / Velaa tier — top villa categories, butler service, seaplane$1,700–3,500

Per night for two sharing, bed & breakfast basis (guesthouses room-only or B&B), USD, taxes as bundled in rack rates. Transfers, the USD 6–12 per-adult-per-night green tax and festive supplements are extra. Bands reflect typical 2026 contract rates for wet season — individual resorts vary. Full trip budgets, flights included, are on our trip-cost guide.

All-inclusive in July

Most resorts price all-inclusive as a supplement of roughly USD 85–220 per person per night over bed & breakfast — 4★ islands at the lower end, 5★ at the upper. In July, budget about USD $700–1,200 per night for two on a 4★ all-inclusive plan. School-holiday demand means all-inclusive-led family packages sell first in July — book the plan with the room rather than upgrading later, and earlier than you would for June or September.

The verdict

Should you book July?

July is a curious month. The weather is still firmly wet-season — breezy, showery, with the south-west monsoon in full effect — but it is also when European and Gulf school holidays begin, and demand rebounds. Rates rise back into mid-season territory even though the climate has not changed from cheaper June.

If your dates are fixed by school holidays, July is perfectly enjoyable: the rain comes in bursts, the sun still shines most of the day, and the surf and manta action are excellent. If your dates are flexible, June and September deliver near-identical weather for noticeably less.

In July's favour

  • Excellent surf continues
  • Manta activity intensifying at Hanifaru Bay
  • Long daylight hours and warm sea
