The verdict
Should you book June?
June is deep wet season — and deep value. Room rates sit near their annual floor, islands are quiet, and travellers who do not mind trading guaranteed sun for a serious discount get the Maldives almost to themselves.
It is also prime time for two very different crowds. Surfers get the season’s best swell on the south-west-facing reef breaks around Malé and the Thaa/Laamu region. And in Baa Atoll, the manta rays gather at Hanifaru Bay to feed in the plankton-rich water — one of the planet’s great marine spectacles. Expect daily showers, but also warm water and plenty of bright spells between them.
