Fuvahmulah is a single oceanic island in its own one-island atoll (Gnaviyani), ringed by steep walls that drop straight into deep water, and is renowned for year-round pelagic encounters including tiger sharks, thresher sharks and silvertips. Pelagic thresher sharks are seen at sloping reef cleaning stations off the northern tip of the island, usually at recreational depths of about 15-30 m, with peak thresher sightings reported in the first half of the year. Currents and surge can be strong; these are advanced ocean dives.
