Nova Maldives recently concluded a three-day initiative celebrating Women’s Dive Day, which ran from July 17 to July 19. The event featured a panel discussion with prominent female figures in the industry, including the country’s first female PADI Course Director, Zoona Naseem, who addressed the importance of female representation and career diversity within marine science and diving. Situated in the South Ari Atoll, the resort utilized the occasion to foster community engagement and promote inclusivity within the sport.
The program included introductory scuba sessions for resort guests, alongside a career workshop and coral restoration project for students from Dhangethi School. Participants gained practical experience by attaching coral fragments to metal frames for transplantation onto the house reef, a vital effort given the recent regional impacts of coral bleaching. This initiative serves as a precursor to the resort’s upcoming participation in PADI’s AWARE Week this September, which will continue the focus on ocean conservation and marine education.
