What "private pool" means in practice
A private pool is a pool attached to one villa and used only by its guests. That is where the similarity ends. Pools differ in size, depth, shade and position: on a beach deck, in a garden, or beside an overwater terrace with the lagoon beyond.
Resorts rarely publish pool dimensions. Where they do, the figure is worth noting. Atmosphere Kanifushi, for example, lists a 40 m² pool on its 2 Bedroom Sunset Family Beach Villa with Pool, which is a useful benchmark when you compare other villas.
Two points to keep in mind:
- The pool is part of the villa category. Two villas at the same resort can look alike and differ only by pool.
- "Pool villa" is used loosely. A small plunge pool and a full-length lap pool can carry the same label.

Questions to ask before you choose
1. How big is the pool, and how deep? Size and depth decide whether you can swim laps or only cool off. 2. Is it shaded? A pool with no shade is hard to use at midday. 3. Where is it? Ask about fencing, gates and steps if you travel with young children. 5. Is the pool open to view? Some pools sit beside walkways; ask about privacy.
How to book one
Name the exact villa category when you request a quote, not just "pool villa". Categories with and without a pool often sit side by side in the same resort, and the wording on the booking should match the room you want. A travel agent or a destination management company can confirm the category and the pool detail in writing before you pay.
