Milaidhoo Maldives has overhauled the dining concept at Ba’theli by the Reef, transitioning the overwater restaurant from individual plating to a communal, family-style service. Located within a secluded island retreat in the Baa Atoll, the venue consists of three traditional dhoni boats anchored in the lagoon. The new menu draws inspiration from historical Maldivian home dining, replacing the previous spice-route focus with dishes designed for sharing among guests.
Sous chef Nasreena Ali spearheaded the culinary update, which features traditional wooden serving platters known as Malaayfaiy. New menu highlights include grilled coral lobster seasoned with garden-grown herbs and a selection of local desserts accompanied by rare screw pine fruit ice cream. While the restaurant continues to integrate regional influences from India, Arabia, and Indonesia, the reimagined approach prioritizes authentic heritage recipes, soups, and breads to foster a more interactive and culturally grounded dining experience above the water.
