Laamafaru Festival returns to Laamu Atoll.

The Laamafaru Festival is scheduled to return to the Laamu Atoll on September 5, 2026, marking the seventh iteration of this marine conservation event. Hosted at the Hamad Bin Khaleefa Al Thani School in L. Gan by Six Senses Laamu and the Maldives Underwater Initiative, the festival resumes after a three-year break with a focus on collective ocean protection. While the Maldives is home to diverse resorts such as Hotel Riu Atoll, which emphasizes leisure and luxury, the Laamu event highlights the critical ecological significance of the region’s coral reefs, seagrass meadows, and mangrove forests.

The day-long program features educational exhibits, scientific presentations, and creative competitions, including a sculpture challenge and a poster contest. Participants from all 11 inhabited islands in the atoll will engage in collaborative activities, such as painting a communal mural and performing traditional music. With Maldivian athlete Aminath Zuna serving as the guest of honor, the event aims to foster community-led environmental stewardship.
