The resort
The Residence Zanzibar occupies a forested 32-hectare estate on the island's south-west coast, where tropical gardens run down to powder-white sand and the Indian Ocean. Architecture and interiors draw on Zanzibar's layered Swahili, Omani, British and Indian influences, and the whole property is given over to 66 free-standing villas, each with its own pool and bicycles for exploring the grounds. A spa set among two hectares of gardens, two restaurants and a programme of island excursions round out the stay.
