The resort
The Manta Resort sits on the northern tip of Pemba Island, above a house reef inside the Pemba Channel Conservation Area. Rooms and villas are built from locally sourced hardwood, coral stone and palm thatch, cooled at night by the resort's own low-energy EveningBreeze canopy system rather than air conditioning, and stays are all-inclusive with daily snorkelling and a wellness treatment each day. The resort's best-known room, the Underwater Room, floats roughly 250 metres offshore. Every stay supports reef protection and community work through the Kwanini Foundation.

The bedroom sits four metres below the surface with glass on nearly every side; a shaded lounge and bathroom occupy the sea-level deck, and a rooftop platform is set up for sunbathing by day and stargazing at night.
