The resort
Xanadu is a nine-villa retreat on a stretch of white sand at Dongwe, on Zanzibar's south-east coast. Every villa is free-standing, with its own plunge or rooftop pool, waterfall shower and a domed ceiling that has become the property's architectural signature; the villas ring a central pool area and open onto the beach a few steps away. Rates are all-inclusive and each party is assigned a private butler for the length of the stay. Meals come from a multinational kitchen brigade drawing on produce grown on site, and can be taken at the restaurant, in the villa, or on the beach.
