Velavaru lies in Dhaalu (South Nilandhe) Atoll near Angsana Velavaru resort; the outer/house reef drops from the shallow reef flat down a slope into the channel. Reef sharks, eagle rays, turtles and reef fish are reported along the outer reef and nearby thilas. The exact location for 'Velavaru Out Reef' remains unconfirmed against structured sources.
