Why go to Bentota?
Choose Bentota if you want a relaxed beach stay that still gives you an inland waterway to explore. It works well before continuing south toward Galle.
The beach and Bentota River create two very different ways to spend time here. Some visitors will be content to remain on the coast, while others can use this as the first resort base on a journey south. Unlike Galle, the main choice here is the stay and shoreline, not a heritage-city visit.

River-and-ocean setting or a coastal headland?
Cinnamon Bentota Beach sits between the Bentota River and the Indian Ocean and highlights its Geoffrey Bawa-designed spaces. Taj Bentota Resort & Spa describes a headland setting beside two beaches. Shortlist Cinnamon if the river, architecture and resort setting interest you; compare Taj for the headland outlook. Check the actual room category and beach access rather than assuming the Bentota address gives both hotels the same layout.
Compare the meal plan alongside the hotel
Several restaurants on site do not establish an all-inclusive stay. Ask for the named board basis, included restaurants and drinks, any dining credits or supplements, and the arrangements for every traveller's age. Compare the same room and cancellation terms across quotations. Leave separately priced river outings, spa visits and transfers visible in the proposal so the hotel setting and the holiday budget can be assessed together.
A beach base with selected outings
Our suggested starting point is one Bentota base with full days for the hotel and one or two chosen outings, rather than moving along the coast every night. If Galle Fort is the main purpose of the stay, compare a Galle base instead. Confirm the drive from the actual airport or previous hotel, allow for checkout and traffic, and give the return flight its own departure plan. Choose water activities using current local conditions and the operator's advice.
