Sun Siyam Olhuveli has introduced a night snorkeling excursion that allows guests to observe manta rays feeding within the resort’s house reef. Located in the South Malé Atoll, the property is known for its expansive lagoon and accessible marine life. During this hour-long activity, specialized underwater lighting attracts phytoplankton, which in turn draws manta rays to the surface. Participants can witness the creatures performing their characteristic barrel rolls and loops from the water’s surface, providing a close-up view of the unique spot patterns used by researchers to identify individual rays.
The experience is facilitated by the Sun Diving Dive Center, which provides all necessary equipment, including snorkeling vests to ensure buoyancy and comfort. Instructors guide participants throughout the session to maintain safety and confidence, making the encounter suitable for those new to night snorkeling. Available daily between 19:00 and 20:00, the program offers an immersive perspective on the nocturnal behaviors of these marine animals.
