InterContinental Maldives Maamunagau Resort has introduced Calm Waters, a wellness-focused excursion centered on swimming with nurse sharks in the Raa Atoll. Located on a private island sanctuary known for its extensive house reef and manta ray habitats, the resort designed this program to prioritize marine education and responsible observation. Participants begin with a briefing led by a resident marine biologist, which provides insight into shark behavior and ecology two days before the scheduled swim. To ensure a grounded experience, the package includes a pre-swim morning meditation and stretching session at the waterfront yoga pavilion.
The excursion itself emphasizes peaceful coexistence, with the marine team monitoring conditions to ensure a calm, non-intrusive encounter. Following the swim, guests can opt for restorative spa treatments at the AVI Spa, such as floating sound healing or a traditional Maldivian body ritual. This initiative blends conservation-minded adventure with holistic relaxation, offering a structured approach to exploring the local marine environment.
