Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa, located on Thilamaafushi Island in the Lhaviyani Atoll, has introduced a comprehensive stargazing programme in partnership with local specialists Space Cat. Positioned at 5° north of the equator, the resort utilizes its unique geographical vantage point to offer guests guided celestial observations. The initiative features a resident astronomer who leads daytime solar study sessions and evening telescope viewings, complemented by specialized dining experiences, astrophotography workshops, and bespoke portrait sessions set against the backdrop of the Indian Ocean.
Beyond leisure, the programme incorporates educational elements, including dedicated Space Day activities for children and presentations on dark sky conservation to highlight the impact of light pollution. By blending scientific discovery with the resort’s signature focus on mindful exploration, the initiative aims to provide guests with a deeper connection to the natural environment both during the day and under the night sky.
