Kandima Maldives recently concluded its inaugural Art for Biodiversity Exhibition, an island-wide trail that showcased works from over 20 international and local creators. Running from July through September, the project was supported by a United Nations Development Programme grant and operated under the resort’s KULA Art Initiative. Situated on a three-kilometre-long island in the Dhaalu Atoll, the resort utilized its expansive grounds to host a variety of media, including digital displays, paintings, and interactive installations.

The exhibition featured pieces such as Ahmed Shauraf’s copper-wire manta ray installation, which illustrated the economic paradox of rarity, and Nishaza Mohamed’s resin sculpture, which highlighted the physical impact of coastal erosion. Other contributors, including Fathimath Aala Abdullah Salih and Ali Rishwaan, focused on the intersection of Maldivian cultural heritage and environmental preservation. By combining creative expression with conservation-focused storytelling, the project served as a pilot study for new models of environmental finance within the tourism sector.
