Ellaidhoo Maldives by Cinnamon has introduced guided night snorkelling excursions, offering guests a chance to observe the North Ari Atoll reef after dark. Beginning at 6:30 p.m., these sessions are led by the resort’s Dive & Sail team, who provide underwater torches to illuminate the nocturnal activity of the marine ecosystem. Known for its exceptional accessibility and biodiversity, the resort’s house reef undergoes a significant transformation once the sun sets, revealing creatures that remain hidden throughout the daylight hours.
Participants often encounter moray eels, octopuses, and crustaceans emerging from the coral, alongside reef sharks and lionfish. The torchlight also highlights the vibrant colours of the coral polyps as they extend to feed in the evening currents. This experience provides an alternative perspective on the underwater environment, shifting the focus from the familiar daytime reef to the mysterious behaviours of nocturnal sea life in the stillness of the ocean.
