There is a lovely aromatic fullness with honey flavors and a smooth chalky texture on the palate, followed by candied lemon notes and a delicious bitterness, ending on a wonderfully refreshing finish. La Grande Annee 2007 is the perfect Champagne to serve with a fine meal, underscoring Bollinger’s reputation as the ultimate food pairing Champagne. Bollinger's 2008 Grande Année is rich, ample and full-bodied, with all of the pedigree of the vintage on display. It drives deep and taut. Pinot noir is a strong core and the chardonnay sits at the edge offering lemon and white nectarine sorbet flavors. Staggeringly concentrated, yet the balance makes it seem airy and light. Acidity is perfectly positioned, and the power is intense and long. This is an ultra precise Cristal, finishing with a mere suggestion of savoriness and warmth to come. Impressive on release, this will be at its best drinking from 2025.

62% Pinot Noir, 38% Chardonnay A great rosé champagne must be made from very ripe grapes, which are sometimes difficult to obtain in the Champagne climate. As a result, Louis Roederer has chosen to invest in one of the earliest Champagne crus, Cumières, for which the steeply-sloping, shallow clay and limestone soils face south and benefit from the additional light reflected from the river Marne, enabling phenolic maturity to be achieved. In these select terroirs, Louis Roederer applies the precise winemaking methods required for the production of a saignée rosé. The style of this rosé is elegant, full-bodied and with delicate fruitiness (red fruits). Brut Rosé is 100% estate-bottled from the grapes of the historic family-owned vineyards.

Non-vintage Moët has records dating back to 1881 showing Napoleon ordering the Rosé Impérial. Climate change is a definite thing in Champagne; Rosé only used to be produced in the best / warmest years. Now all the rosés in the portfolio make up 20% of production, up from only 2% 20 years ago. One thing that sets this rosé apart from most peers is the use of pinot meunier in the base wine mix. Chef de Cave Benoît Gouez puts the pinot meunier through thermovinification, macerating the fruit for only 2 hours and then pressing, with no skin or seed contact. This extracts a lot of colour and fruit, but it's not a long-lived production method. To this they add pinot noir, macerated as normal. This is also the only red that goes into the reserves, as it has the structure and production method to last years. The two each make up 10% of the final blend of the Rosé Impérial, with chardonnay making up the majority at 80%. After up to 48 months on lees, this is dosed with 7 g/L. Strawberry leather, cherry brioche, red apple floods the palate, tightened on the sides with a slight grip, and lingering with cherry leather and fine spice.

45% of the chardonnay is from the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims vineyards. 55% of the pinot noir is from the Montagne de Reims and the Vallée de la Marne vineyards, 18 to 19% of which has been made into red wine. 20 to 25% coming from reserve wines from the 2 previous years. The nose is subtle and fresh, first offering an original palette of tropical fruits (guava and lychee) and small berries (raspberries, cherries and wild strawberries) in the first instance. These are followed by rose and pomegranate notes which complete the complex, intense aromatic profile, dominated by somewhat undeveloped primary aromas.On the palate the attack is distinct and full, cradled by a gentle effervescence. The aromas of freshly picked berries are fully expressed. The balance brings together a delightful freshness and voluptuous body, expressed by an elegant bracing touch of mint and pink grapefruit.

Non-vintage The coppery champagne, the burst of red fruit aromas…to achieve it, the blend is an essential element, a creative act. The Cellar Master and his team of experts select excellent quality red wines and still wines from some of the most sought-after vineyards in Champagne to find the flavors and characteristics that perfectly express the Veuve Clicquot Rosé style.Made using 50 to 60 different crus, and 30 to 45% of Reserve wines, the cuvée is based on Yellow Label’s traditional blend: the Pinot Noir predominance (50-55%) provides the structure that is so typically Veuve Clicquot, while Chardonnay (28-33%) adds the elegance and finesse essential in a perfectly balanced wine, and a touch of Meunier (15-20%) rounds out the blend.The blend is then completed with 12% of still red wine using red grapes, providing fruitiness. The long period of aging in our Crayères (3 years minimum for Rosé) lendssilkiness to the Champagne.

This cuvée embodies the quintessence of Franciacorta and the ideal harmony behind every Bellavista Franciacorta Method wine. It is made from mostly chardonnay grapes, followed by pinot nero and a small proportion of pinot bianco. At the winery, it is assembled by capable hands from many vintage selections and a few reserve wines from previous harvests, an essential treasure that perpetuates the winery’s style through time. Also important are the fermentation and elevage of part of these wines in small white oak barrels, which impart depth and complexity. The wine is a straw yellow color with greenish highlights and a fine, continuous bead. Ample and enveloping, the aromas range from ripe fruit to fresh flowers, all the way to vanilla and pastry. In the mouth, it is mineral and sensorily complete, fresh and vibrant, and very consistent from an aromatic perspective. Long harmonious finish.

Misawa, Japan Serena is an elegant traditional method (bottle-fermented) sparkling wine made from Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc grown in the Misawa Vineyard located at Akeno town, Hokuto City, Yamanashi prefecture; and Chardonnay from the Hishiyama producing area which boasts the highest altitude vineyards in the region. The wine is a single vintage extra brut (dry), went through 36 months of bottle maturation, followed by gentle manual riddling on racks and then disgorgement, bottle by bottle.At Grace, sparkling wines are made with the same bottle fermentation process as used in Champagne. Wines are matured in bottles for 3 to 5 years as a vintage wine. Serena Extra Brut is the second wine of the prestige cuvée of Grace “Blanc de Blanc” (5 years of bottle maturation).To ensure a creamy and fine mousse in all of Grace’s sparkling wines, riddling through to dosage are all done by hands, manual work that we cherish.

The parellada, from the highest mountains of the region, provides the freshness, the macabeu gives us the fruit and the xarel·lo gives us the body.The three varieties complement each other creating a perfect synergy of aromas and freshness.

Wild and full-bodied. Ruby color marked, nose of a rare fruity and smoky violence, mouth entirely spicy by its burnt tannins. A certain virility and great aptitude for guarding. Volcanic temperament.

Alsace, France Concentrated nose of red fruits very finely marked by wood. Soft and silky tannins. The palate is rich, round and of great length.

Pauillac, France The 2003 Lafite Rothschild comes as close to perfection as any of the great Lafites made over the past three decades (1982, 1986, 1996, 2000, 2005, 2008, 2009 and 2010). This sensational effort came in at 12.7% natural alcohol, it is made in the style of one of this estates great classics, the 1959. Composed of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it exhibits a dense ruby/purple color to the rim along with a luxurious bouquet of cedarwood, lead pencil shaving, white chocolate, cocoa and cassis. Fat, rich, opulent and full-bodied with low acidity and stunning seductiveness and complexity, this noble wine possesses a bountiful, generous, heady style. It is just coming into its plateau of maturity where it should hold for 20-25 years.

Pauillac, France Intense aromas of blackberries, black licorice and currants, with mineral undertones. Full-bodied, with a solid core of tannins and a long, silky finish. Still holding back, but is concentrated and powerful.

Pauillac, France A classic Lafite Rothschild, with a good 40 years of potential aging ahead of it, this wine tastes like a juiced-up 1999. A blend of 86.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13.5% Merlot (only 43% of the crop was deemed worthy enough for this wine), the 2001 shows the classic Lafite nose of lead pencil shavings (graphite), plum, cherry, and black currant, with a hint of tobacco leaf, cedar, and spice box. Medium-bodied, with loads of tannin, this intensely concentrated Lafite is somehow restrained, with extraordinary precision and purity. It is a beauty and seems to be putting on a bit of weight.

Pauillac, France The 1998 Latour was in fact the first vintage I ever tasted en primeur at the château. It was an early vintage after budburst on 20 March and the picking began on 20 September until 5 October, the Grand Vin a blend of 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot (compared to around 9% these days), 4% Cabernet Franc 1% Petit Verdot. It has an open-knit bouquet with notes of black fruit, iron, undergrowth and autumn leaves. You cannot help noticing its rusticity compared to present-day Latour. The palate is medium-bodied, well balanced, a tang of soy marking the entry, brambly red berry fruit and an almost Graves-like, tertiary, slightly short finish. It is a mid-weight Latour, one that I cannot envisage improving further but it will cruise at this level for the next decade. Tasted at the château.

Pauillac, France The fleshy, mouth-filling flavours of this wine, from the exceptional 1996 vintage, leads to great finesse on the finish. With its voluptuous cassis fruit it is a blockbuster to enjoy now but will improve with age. Pauillac at its best.

Pauillac, France Château Duhart-Milon Grand Cru Classé wine demonstrates all the refinement of a 4ème Cru Classé from Pauillac. A cut of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, intense purple in color, with aromas of blackcurrant, licorice and cedar. In the mouth, it has great volume and complexity, with a long and balanced finish. A red wine with excellent storage potential and can age for many years.

Pauillac, France This wine is rich, with generous black plum and berry fruits. It has a structure that is full, ripe and that will sustain the fruitiness of the wine over many years. The sensation is of velvet, with some force behind it.

The nose develops aromas of violet, blackcurrant and blackberry. On the palate it is generous, smooth and completely pure.

Margaux

Margaux, France Exhibits blackberry, mineral, currant and dark chocolate. Full and velvety, with lots of fruit and chewy tannins. Long and caressing, with incredibly sweet fruit and tannins on the finish. Goes on for minutes. A thoroughly gorgeous wine. Best after 2015

Margaux, France Using lower yields and a stricter selection of grapes, the quality of this Margaux is on the rise. Aged for 18 months in 60% new oak barrels this is a a complex and generous wine with aromas of licorice, graphite, charcoal and leather. Full-bodied and opulent with a silky texture.

Saint-Estephe

Saint-Estèphe, France Château Calon-Séguris an estate located in the commune ofSaint-Estèpheon the left bank of the Gironde River in Bordeaux, which was rated as a third growth in the1855 Classificationof the Medoc and Graves. The château is unique in the Medoc as the vineyards are in one single plot surrounded by tall stone walls. The grand vin is predominantly made fromCabernet Sauvignon– in some years the proportion can be as high as 90 percent.Wine growing here dates back to the 12th Century, but the name, Calon-Ségur, was first seen in the 18th Century. At the time, the château was owned by Nicolas-Alexandre, the Marquis de Ségur, who also owned Châteaux Latour, Lafite and Margaux. The Marquis decided to add his name to the château alongside the word Calon, the name of the small boats that once transferred timber down the Gironde. As well as changing the name of the estate he also placed a heart on the label of his wine, after he famously stated: "I make wine at Lafite and Latour but my heart belongs to Calon."

Saint-Estephe, France Fruity and spicy, this is a fine, attractively fruity wine. While it doesn't have great weight, it has a core of dry tannins and a dark structure that suggests good aging for the future

Saint-Julien, France Performing better from bottle than it did from cask, this blend of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, and 11% Cabernet Franc has put on weight over the last year. It exhibits the classic style of both Las Cases and St.-Julien in its deep black currant notes interwoven with sweet cherries, wet stones, and toasty vanillin. Made in a structured, medium to full-bodied style with superb concentration, beautiful purity, and admirable symmetry, this beauty is one of the strongest efforts of the vintage.

Saint-Julien, France The 4th Grand Cru in the 1855 classification, Château Beychevelle would undoubtedly deserve another title if the classification were to be redone. With no less than 70 ha on the famous Médoc appellation, Saint-Julien, it has become a must. The blend is composed of 47% Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. A very rigorous selection is made in the vineyards and in the cellar to preserve only the best fruits. The wine is fine and balanced, rich in tannins and the aromas of fruit and spices are of a charming finesse. With a good structure, these wines are suitable for a long aging. Many amateurs, French and foreign, are looking for old vintages, particularly successful.As for recent years, they are acclaimed by a global clientele, and especially Asian. It will go perfectly with red meats but not only... do not hesitate to let your imagination run wild.

Medoc, France 2012 Potensac it has developed more flesh to counterbalance those prenatal hard tannins. It has an attractive if unspectacular raspberry, strawberry and tobacco-scented bouquet, quite closed at first, opaque, but opening with several minutes in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe blackberry fruit laced with tobacco and sea salt. I appreciate the finish here. There is satisfying substance, a gentle grip and a classic pencil lead, almost Pauillac-like finish. Enjoy this upstanding Médoc from Jean-Hubert Delon over the next 10-12 years

Saint-Emilion The 1998 Cheval Blanc, a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc, is deep garnet-brick in color and absolutely explodes with scents of exotic spices, incense, dried roses, cigar box and licorice, with a core of crème de cassis and dried cherries plus touches of black tea and dusty earth. Medium to full-bodied, it fills the mouth with rich, plushly textured fruit and then POW—it hits the mid-palate with an explosion of Chinese five spice and floral perfume sparks, leading to an epically long finish. This cannot fail to impress and can easily cellar for another 30 years or more.

Saint-Emilion After a lovely summer, harvesting took place in September, when the weather was a little unreliable. The high grape quality helped to make a keeping wine with very classical characteristics. With its intense black robe, the wine displays black fruit aromas combined with hints of cocoa. The mid-palate is distinctively lush and dense. The finish is multi-layered and firm, and contributes a lot of freshness and length to this very characteristic Saint-Emilion vintage

Saint-Emilion

Saint-Emilion Smoky, earthy, sweet red and black currant, fig, and menthol notes jump from the glass of this dark ruby/plum-hued, medium-weight Cheval Blanc. Possessing sweet tannin, medium body, and undeniable elegance as well as nobility, this beautifully made effort appears slightly superior (at least to my taste) to the more hyped 2003.

Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, France Wonderful aromas of chocolate, spice and toasted oak. Full-bodied, with really fine tannins and a long, flavorful finish. Excellent for the second wine of Cheval-Blanc. Gorgeous.

Montagne-Saint-Emilion, France GRAPE VARIETY :70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet SauvignonNOTE : On the nose: Black fruit overtones (morello cherry) with delicate nuances of fresh spice and chocolate. The mouth starts out crunchy, going on to reveal particularly elegant tannin and beautiful freshness that lasts until the end of the fruit aftertaste.FOOD PAIRING :Grilled meat, french cheese, steamed Lobster with garlic and ginger. Japanese: Sushi (Fuller bodied seafood) Shellfish and Shrimp served with Soyu and Wasabi. Korean: Banchan (different side dishes).

Pomerol Proprietor Christian Moueix's 1996s have turned out well in the bottle. The 1996 Petrus is a big, monolithic, foursquare wine with an impressively opaque purple color, and sweet berry fruit intermixed with earth, pain grille, and coffee scents. Full-bodied and muscular, with high levels of tannin, and a backward style, this wine (less than 50% of the production was bottled as Petrus) will require patience. It is a mammoth example

Pomerol, France This wine has been produced by Ets. Jean-Pierre Moueix since 1976 for the Borderie family, owners since 1930.The Merlot vines (averaging 30 years of age), are planted on gravel and clay. The Cabernet Franc is planted on silt soils, which encourage a nuanced and full expression of this varietal’s character. The vineyard management and vinification are carried out traditionally and with great care, producing a plump, supple, fleshy wine with ripe fruit and silky tannins. Eminently approachable, even in its youth, Lafleur-Gazin is a delightful expression of the lighter style of Pomerol wines.

Pomerol, FranceFigeac, a prestigious name in Saint-Émilion, which can be found in several classified growths bordering Pomerol, located on gravel. In fact, the terroir of this vineyard located south of the appellation is sandy-gravelly. Unlike the 1st ranked Saint-Emilion, Merlot reigns supreme here (95%). The wine also offers a very Pomerolais character.Very colorful, it is distinguished by the delicacy of its bouquet, where the wood respects the fruit. Of a beautiful magnitude, it offers a round and concentrated material, reinforced by elegant tannins that will ensure a good guard.Blond woody cherry nose that emphasizes the fruit, delicate mouth, fresh, elegant, tannins not too extracted, velvety, greedy, long, stretched.

Pessac-Leognan, FranceIndicative blend: Predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Great intensity for this Cru Classé of Graves where olfaction leads us to high spheres. A combination of black berries and sweet spices invades our senses. Blackcurrant, licorice and tailed pepper, everything is magnificence. The delectable mouth is full of praise

Pessac-Léognan, FranceIndicative blend: Predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot with Cabernet Franc and Petit VerdotChâteau Smith Haut Lafitteis located inPessac-Léognanon the Left Bank of the Garonne River. During the1959 Classificationof the Graves it was rated as Grand Cru Classé for its red wine. The greatest wine ever made by Daniel and Florence Cathiard, Château Smith Haut Lafitte 2009 reveals a deep dark blue color with a sumptuous nose of acacia flower, licorice, anthracite, blueberry, black raspberry, pencil mine and incense. This impressive wine, with an extraordinarily rich and creamy texture, is undoubtedly the most intense wine produced to date. A splendid expression of Pessac-Léognan with silky tannins, revealing charm, delicacy and power, concentration, depth, considerable richness. Well done!

Margaux, France Second GrowthChâteau Rauzan-Séglais a second growth fromMargaux, Bordeaux, as set out in the1855 classificationof Medoc and Graves. TheCabernet Sauvignon-dominant blend is rich and concentrated, and is often considered one of the best of the second growths.

Saint-Emilion, France This 2003 Grand Cru has a wonderfully complex, austere nose of coffee, smoke, oak and a little graphite. Nice blackcurrant fruit on initial entry with some chocolate. Smooth mouthfeel with drying tannins on the finish.

Pessac-Leognan, France The 2006 Château Pape Clèment has an intense bouquet that is very well defined, adorned with cassis, blueberry and subtle iodine scents that all gain momentum in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, very well-judged acidity, the new oak neatly enmeshed and blessed with a precise, harmonious finish that lingers. This is a wonderful Pape Clèment that will give much pleasure over the next 20 or 30 years.

Puisseguin-Saint-Emilion, France Under the same ownership as the Rothschild property Château Clarke in Moulis, this estate predominately grows Merlot. This wine comes from a selected parcel that gives rich, intense and concentrated fruitiness and dense tannins. It shows a lightly burnt character from the wood aging but the blackberry fruits are dominant and ripe. Drink from 2021.

Margaux, France The Pavillon Rouge 2003 is a monumental wine, richer in tannins than any Château Margaux produced over at least the last 40 years, until 2005 (which is even more concentrated!). This unusual power is fortunately balanced, as in the first wine, by a delicacy and smoothness which almost makes one forget the impressive tannic structure. It is delicious to drink today and for many more years to come.

Saint-Emilion Grand Cru, France Chateau Canon is a 1er Grand Cru Classé estate in the St Emilion appellation on Bordeaux’s right bank. The Grand Vin Chateau Canon is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc. After harvesting the grapes are meticulously sorted before undergoing fermentation and a two week post-ferment maceration to build tannin structure. Maturation takes place in 60% new French oak for 18 to 20 months. In the best years, Chateau Canon is deeply coloured and plush with ample mouth-coating blue and blackberry fruit.

Pessac-Leognan, France The cranberry and cherry notes on the nose are pretty, and this wine also has a firm core of ripe tannins and good concentration with some real sophistication on the finish.

Margaux, France La Sirène de Giscours is the second wine of Château Giscours, Grand Cru Classé de Margaux. The estate is rich in an ancient history dating back to the 14th century. A defensive dungeon overlooked a wild and inhospitable countryside. In 1552, Pierre de Lhomme, a wealthy draper from Bordeaux, bought the noble house of "Guyscoutz" , built around a vast estate and planted the very first vines.Beautiful complexity and richness, while keeping the tension, for a wine with generous and deep pleasure. The notes of cassis, peonies and prune prolong it.

Cote de Nuits The domaine is led by Benoit Stehly, nephew of Georges Lignier, who worked at the domaine for a decade alongside his uncle, before assuming control of the work in both the vineyard and the cellar in 2008. His approach is very traditional, as he seeks to achieve maximum aromatic concentration, above nearly all other characteristics, including structural or color concentration. To achieve this, techniques such as a slightly later harvest and 80% destemming are employed. At the Villages level, the wines are raised in older barrels, while the 1er Crus see 30% new oak, and the Grand Crus 50% new oak. A vein of seductive elegance runs throughout the full range of wines, inviting a complex and beautiful conversation with each glass. The sensitive palate will thoroughly enjoy this approach, a statement of respect for the grandest of traditions in Burgundy and a sublime expression of the terroir underlying some of the most renowned sites in the Cote de Nuits. Since 2010 the wines are neither fined nor filtered.

Cote de Nuits Bright medium red. Quintessential Burgundy aromas and flavors of black raspberry, bitter cherry, Oriental spices, coffee, and musky underbrush, all lifted by an element of peppery herbs. Densely packed, spicy and taut; initially seems a bit light but there's real sap here. The light peppery quality combines with fine tannins to give the finish grip and lift. My recorked bottle held up for days in the refrigerator.

Cote de Nuits, France Located in Burgundy’s Gevrey-Chambertin, the Rossignol-Trapet domaine makes top quality red wine from the Pinot Noir grape variety. The estate was founded when Jacques Rossignol of Volnay married Mado Trapet from Gevrey-Chambertin, with their two sons Nicolas and David Rossignol taking over full winemaking responsibilities from 1990 after the domaine was split into two (the other half becoming Trapet Père et Fils). Rossignol-Trapet makes a small number of bottles every year, following organic and biodynamic methods just like their cousins at Trapet Père et Fils. Yields are reduced as much as possible to focus on quality, not quantity, and new oak is only prominent in the Grand Cru expressions. The wines can be quite austere when young, with earthy and floral notes at the forefront, however, this firmer structural quality only helps to create the perfect framework for the wines to age with grace and elegance.

Cote de Nuits, France Cotes de Nuits, France TastingWell located under the Grands Crus route and more precisely in the extension of the Grand Cru Mazoyères-Chambertin, this Gevrey obviously has the spicy character of the best "Villages" in the town, but without a hint of rustic character, proof of the wine maker's talent for understand the character of his vintage from the vineyard to the vinification, without exaggerating the extraction on a more clayey soil and naturally capable of producing a thick and virile wine.ViticultureThe grapes are 100% destemmed.Cold maceration for about a week, at 14O.Natural fermentation, gentle extraction by pumping over and very little punching down.Once fermentation is complete, the wines are settled for 48 hours and put in barrels for 12 to 14 months of aging, depending on the nature of the vintage.25% new barrels, the rest being made up equally of one-year and two-year barrels.

Cote de Nuits, France begins with really attractive ruby color of medium intensity with real brilliance. Truly charming, slightly vanilla at first, then moving towards aromas of fresh raspberries of great purity, then notes of musk and soft spices. The mouth is sumptuous, possessing an extraordinary velvetiness. The palate is rich in aromas - red fruits, then cinnamon, then butterscotch - almost creme brulee. Almost infinite length.

Cote de Nuits, France The Gevrey Chambertin of the Maison Louis Jadot is a wine vinified from the production of various major producers of Gevrey. It has a very deep ruby color. It gives off aromas of ripe red and black fruits, spices and animal notes of musk and fur as it ages. It is silky, robust, tannic and well balanced.

Cote de Beaune A gorgeously rich wine, powered by tannins but just as importantly by ripe berry fruit and crisp acidity. Smoky wood flavors blend with juicy fruit, powerful dark tannins and an intensely fresh finish. Age for seven years or more

Côte de Beaune, FranceThe sole red offering from this domaine outside of Volnay is the Beaune 1er Cru “Cents Vignes” which is also perhaps the most charming red wine of the estate. It shows this appellation’s typical soft tannins and gracious red cherry fruit; supple, silky, and fine with excellent balance and beautifully ripe fruit. The Bitouzets own 1.26 hectares of vines here which were planted in 1987 and 1988. This is fresher still with its pretty nose that blends red currant and cherry aromas with those of anise and violet. Rioja DOCa, Spain Always a sure value, the 2015 La Montesa, has been increasing the amount of Garnacha in its blend, and here it reached 92% with the remaining 8% being Tempranillo. La Montesa is the name of a large estate where different lieux-dits, or "parajes" in Spanish, contribute to the blend of Valtomelloso, Valfrio and Valviejo. The grapes were hand-picked throughout October, then destemmed, crushed and fermented with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel vats, with remontage, where it also underwent malolactic fermentation. The wine matured in barrel for 12 months before being bottled. There is a big jump from La Vendimia to La Montesa in finesse, freshness and subtleness. The tannins are ultrafine, and the flavors are intense and deep, with some spicy undertones and a very tasty finish. Amazingly good. A whopping 650,000 bottles and some other formats produced. The quality is amazing for the volume, and it's also a good value.

In this vintage the wine achieved the unmistakable color that this variety tends to present—a very lively ruby red with magenta at the rim. Aromatically it expresses the typical fresh berry notes of blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries as well as notes of wildflowers, country herbs, and damp forest. Its short stay in French oak barrel lends enough complexity on the nose and smoothed the tannins on the palate.

DE STEFANI 1624 Marzemino 100% ABV 15.5%Stèfen is the ancient surname of the De Stefani family, as written in old documents dated 1624. With this wine De Stefani wanted to bring back the old vinification process of the Marzemino. Here grapes are naturally dried, while the wine continues the fermentation process until all of the sugars are transformed into alcohol. This is a very deep ruby color with a garnished hue. It has a full body that is powerful and bold with a heavy texture but is yet still delicate and maintains a low acidity. Intense scents of ripe wild fruit and clear notes of cherry, blackberry, vanilla, and chocolate prevail throughout the wine. The wine has round tannins and a lingering warm finish.

Only 800-850 dozen bottles are produced each year from vineyards planted on south and south-east facing slopes in the late 1900s. The vineyards, on various soil types, are farmed organically, but along traditional lines.The grapes are crushed and then macerated on skins for 4-5 days in temperature-controlled rotary fermenters before fermentation using indigenous yeasts. The wine is matured for 24 months in French oak barriques before bottling unfined and unfiltered.The Elio Altare Barolo shows an intense ruby-red colour with hints of garnet.On the nose fresh scents of small red fruits, raspberry, redcurrant and wild roses evolve into licorice and spice notes. GAJABARBARESCO PiedmontFloral aromatics give way to bright spiced red fruits, menthol and licorice as the 2005 Barbaresco opens in the glass. This is a firm, classically built wine of notable elegance. The tannins are substantial yet beautifully woven into the wine’s mid-weight frame. This is another beautiful Barbaresco from Angelo Gaja. . Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030. I was blown away by Angelo Gaja’s 2005 wines from Barbaresco. When all is said and done, Gaja may have well produced not the wine, but rather the wines of the vintage in a year that was excellent. They are vibrant offerings that will thrill readers who love Piedmont wines. As always, Gaja blends in a small percentage of Barbera in his single-vineyard wines, but that is hardly noticeable in this vintage. I also noted less new oak than has generally been the case in the recent past. The wines showcase very pure expressions of Nebbiolo and are made in a style that appears to make fewer concessions to the decidedly international approach of previous vintages. In short, these are the most Piedmontese wines I have tasted from Angelo Gaja in a long time. Could it be that the greatest innovator in Piedmont over the last thirty five-plus years has taken a small step towards a more classic style.

The bouquet is powerful, intense and very rich with ripe aromas of blackberries, black plums, notes of boysenberries and cassis liqueur, unfolding exotic, spicy oak. The Cabernet Sauvignon is a little more assertive on palate, with rich cassis flavours supported by the blackberry and plum fruit. This has sweetness an opulence and the fruit is supported by beautifully refined tannin structure providing great linearity. The concentrated flavours are very long.

Cote de Beaune, France Comes from a parcel located on steep slopes with about 20% of grapes from the highest Corton mountain. These 40 years old Chardonnay vines are grown in a biodynamic way and respect the lunar calendar. The Au Pied du Mont Chauve Corton Charlemagne Grand Cru 2011 has a nice slightly woody nose and melt thanks to the aging in oak barrel-. However, its aromatic bouquet is dominated by floral acacia and lime notes. The palate is precise and mineral, it also has a lingering aroma and a perfect balance.

Cote de Beaune, France A golden yellow colour, with a slightly faint hue and greenish gold streaks. The nose features fresh fruit aromas of apple and pear accompanied by hazelnut permeating from the barrel vinification. This wine may show lots of body and texture early on, but still ages extremely well.

Burgundy, France This is how a great wine is developed, highly rated by critics and cut for very long aging. It is elegance itself, because it is complex but understandable and without heaviness, but is also rich, tender and dense.

Cote de Beaune, FranceBright, pale yellow. Tight aromas of mirabelle, crushed herbs, licorice and powdered stone are complicated by a distinctive oyster shell quality and a hint of orange zest. Dense and creamy but juicy too, showing good cut and a light touch. Perhaps not squeaky-clean but the exotic orange zest and mineral flavors carry well on the gripping, slightly bitter-edged finish. The label is a picture I took of an abandoned workers house next to the vineyard. These workers contribute massively to the vineyards and work been done there.Whole bunch pressed and fermented on the gross lees in old 500L barrels.Racked before bottling and a small part of sulphur added before being bottled.The wine sits on the lees for 11 months and no batonage done.

Sauternes, France Tasted at the château, the 2005 Chateau d’Yquem delivers a similar performance as last year. Lucid in colour, the bouquet is detailed with very pure honey, vanilla and almond scents, still a little new oak to be fully assimilated but demonstrating superb focus. The palate is virtually identical to last year's bottle: exquisite balance and perfectly judged acidity, but perhaps just gaining a little richness and viscosity over the last 12 months. There is an appealing completeness to this Yquem and whilst I would not place it amongst the likes of 2001 or 2009, it comfortably sits just behind

Maipo, Chile 100% Semillón.This wine is an amber colour due to its lengthy barrel-ageing. The nose reveals a wide range of aromas from honeyed notes, through orange peel, quince and forest floor. The palate is intense, broad and concentrated with a very smooth texture. The high level of sugar is perfectly balanced with the refreshing acidity. The finish is long with a very persistent bouquet.

Alsace, FranceAlsatian Pinot Gris has highly regarded characteristics compared to its Italian and New World American counterparts. Grown and produced in Northeast France, the volcanic and limestone soils provide the perfect canvas for a wine of superlatives and class.One should do what they must to ensure that life is not spent without having experienced the complexity and sumptuousness of Alsatian Pinot Gris.The wines are full-bodied, with a flavorful bouquet of lime, meyer lemon, green apple, pear, and white peach. They exemplify the notions of ripeness, spice, and high acidity. Expect Alsatian Pinot Gris to be a little spendier than other varieties of this grape.Be sure to serve this wine ice cold. This wine pairs very well with light fishes such as perch, and soul. It also tastes amazingly well with chicken, turkey, duck or pork. Cruciferous vegetables are well complimented by the acid in the wine as are well spiced greens.

Yamanashi, Japan The first Japanese Geographical Indication (GI) for wine. Established in 2013, it is situated in the prefecture of the same name. Yamanashi is promoted as the birthplace of Japanese wine production. This Cabernet Franc is truly gorgeous. Blackberries and strawberries meet thyme, black pepper, and fresh tobacco leaves atop a gorgeously smooth and silky mouth feel. Dark, deep, and greatly balanced, this is a must by one of Japan’s most exciting wineries.

Chūbu. Yamanashi. Japan The wine is made from hand-harvested Chardonnay grown in our own vineyard at 700m altitude, then gently pressed, fermented and matured in seasoned french oak barrels. The wine then goes through a second fermentation in bottle. Yields are kept at a low 40hl/ha. After 5 years of ageing on the lees, each bottle of the sparkling wine is hand-riddled and degorged in an attentive manner.

Yamanashi, Japan Compared with those grown on conventional pergolas, Koshu from the Misawa Vineyard has smaller berries, higher sugar content (about 20%), and different organic acids composition. In fact, after spending several years looking into its composition, it became clear that Koshu from the Misawa Vineyard contained higher quantities of malic acid than those grown elsewhere. They also practice “massal selection”, which gives us vines that produce higher sugar content, smaller bunches and smaller berries from the winemaker’s perspective.Instead of relying on fermentation techniques, we want to express the characteristic “sense of place” of the Misawa Vineyard.
