Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort by Anantara rises from flame-coloured dunes on the edge of the Rub' al Khali, the Empty Quarter, on the outskirts of Abu Dhabi. The resort is built as a fortified palace and holds 140 rooms, 14 suites and 53 pool villas, including Royal Pavilion villas set half a kilometre out into the desert for guests wanting complete seclusion. Days are given over to desert pursuits including camel treks across the Empty Quarter, archery, horse riding and dune drives, with dining laid on under open desert skies. The spa offers a Moroccan hammam and desert rose rituals, and there is a Technogym fitness centre, a family swimming pool with a dedicated children's area, and a majlis available for private entertaining.
