UAE planning guide

A seven-day Dubai and Abu Dhabi itinerary.

This proposed route uses seven calendar days and six hotel nights: three in Dubai followed by three in Abu Dhabi. It assumes arrival in Dubai on day one and departure from Abu Dhabi on day seven. Choose fewer stops if your flights leave less usable time, and adjust the final night if you return through Dubai.

Seven days means six overnights in this example

The nights following days one, two and three are in Dubai; the nights following days four, five and six are in Abu Dhabi. Departure is on day seven, so the route totals six hotel nights. A late arrival or early departure reduces sightseeing time without changing that count. Overnight flights and room-access needs may require a different booking pattern.

The allocation is a starting point, not a promise that every listed activity fits your flight schedule. Three Dubai nights give two full days between arrival and the move; three Abu Dhabi nights give two full days between the move and departure. The arrival and transfer days should remain flexible.

If your return flight is from Dubai

For a Dubai return, one option is three initial Dubai nights, two Abu Dhabi nights and one final Dubai night: still six nights. Keep days one to five broadly as above, return to Dubai on day six and depart from Dubai on day seven. This replaces the third Abu Dhabi night rather than adding a seventh hotel night.

Choose the final hotel's actual location to suit the departure airport on your ticket. Confirm pickup time using that address, the flight time and airline check-in requirements. The extra hotel move reduces time in Abu Dhabi, but may fit an early Dubai departure better than a same-day intercity journey.

Another option is to keep all three Abu Dhabi nights and arrange an intercity airport transfer on day seven. Assess it against the flight time and your comfort with that journey. Ask for current routing advice; a general drive-time estimate does not account for your pickup point, traffic or airport formalities.

Choose the two bases before filling the days

In Dubai, use Downtown if the city sights dominate, JBR for seafront time, Marina for its waterfront setting, or Palm Jumeirah for a hotel-focused stay. Bur Dubai is a different starting point for the older city. One Dubai base keeps this short route simpler; compare the exact address with your day-two and day-three priorities.

In Abu Dhabi, choose Saadiyat when beach and culture are the main reasons for staying, or Yas when several attraction days drive the plan. You can visit the other island without another hotel move. If the programme becomes a checklist of venues across both cities, remove an activity before shortening the time available at every stop.

Book in an order that protects the route

Start with confirmed flight dates and airports, then allocate the hotel nights and the intercity move. Only then assign timed visits. This keeps the route consistent when an opening day or room condition changes.

Flights and room access
Record arrival and departure airports, local dates and times. Confirm early check-in or late checkout separately if needed; an arrival day in the itinerary is not a guarantee that the room is ready.
The day-four move
Arrange transport for the exact Dubai and Abu Dhabi hotels, including luggage and any child-seat requirements. Leave a margin before the next reservation and confirm check-in arrangements.
Ticketed visits
Use the chosen venue's current booking calendar and conditions. Check admission for every traveller and separate attraction tickets from hotel benefits unless the booked offer explicitly confirms them.
Your party's pace
Keep rest and meal time in the plan. Check the weather for outdoor activities, and adapt the sequence to mobility needs, children's ages and the experiences you most want to keep.

Questions before you book

How many nights does this seven-day itinerary use?

Six nights: three in Dubai and three in Abu Dhabi, with arrival on day one and departure on day seven. Overnight flights, early room access or an extra full day can change the booking pattern, so match the nights to the actual flight dates.

What changes if I fly home from Dubai?

One proposed version uses three initial Dubai nights, two Abu Dhabi nights and one final Dubai night. Return to Dubai on day six and depart on day seven. It remains six hotel nights and replaces the third Abu Dhabi night rather than adding another night.

Should I do Abu Dhabi as a day trip instead?

A day trip may suit one focused visit. In this suggested two-city route, overnighting in Abu Dhabi gives full days for beach, culture or attractions without returning to Dubai each evening. Choose according to how much time you want there and the airport on your return ticket.

Are hotels, transfers or attraction tickets included in this itinerary?

This is an editorial route suggestion. It has no included accommodation, transport or tickets. Ask for the current availability and the exact inclusions of any separate proposal before booking.
