Tangalle suits travellers who want time on the coast rather than a packed list of excursions. Beaches here vary in exposure: ask locally about swimming conditions before entering the water.
The southern shore opens out around Tangalle, giving the place a quieter feel than the Galle-to-Mirissa corridor. Different beaches have different exposure, so a beautiful stretch of sand is not automatically a swimming beach. Come here when an unhurried stay is more important than collecting a long list of stops.
