RAAYA by Atmosphere has been named a winner at the 2026 International Sustainability Awards, highlighting the property’s successful implementation of responsible waste management practices. Located in the Raa Atoll, the 167-key private island resort has effectively eliminated the need to ship organic waste off-site by processing approximately 600 kilograms of food and garden scraps into nutrient-rich compost each month. This internal circular system has significantly decreased waste-related transportation costs and carbon emissions, with garbage transfer vessels now required only bimonthly.
The resort’s broader environmental strategy includes a substantial expansion of its solar energy infrastructure, which grew to supply 21% of its total power needs by 2025. This transition has led to a major reduction in the property's carbon footprint. Building on its Green Globe certification, the management team plans to further enhance its conservation efforts by integrating specialized machinery to repurpose glass and green waste for ongoing site development.
