CROSSROADS Maldives has been officially designated as an Other Effective Area-Based Conservation Measure (OECM) by the Maldivian Ministry of Climate Change, Environment and Energy. Spanning 1.71 square kilometres within the South Malé Atoll, this site represents the largest recognised OECM in the nation. The integrated leisure destination, which hosts three distinct resorts, functions as a critical ecological corridor for marine life, including 37 coral genera and 177 species of reef fish.

Management of the area relies on rigorous surveillance, including underwater cameras and drone monitoring, to ensure the protection of diverse marine habitats. The site serves as a vital nursery and feeding ground for 24 IUCN-listed species, such as the Hawksbill turtle and various sharks, while also safeguarding a primary migration route for dolphins. This achievement highlights the developer’s long-term strategy to balance sustainable tourism with biodiversity preservation, aligning with global conservation targets to protect significant natural areas.
