The resort
Medhufushi Island Resort sits on a 10-hectare island in Meemu Atoll, 130 km south of Malé, surrounded by coconut palms, tropical greenery and a turquoise lagoon. There are three ways to arrive: a 45-minute seaplane flight, a 2.5-hour speedboat transfer, or a 40-minute domestic flight followed by a 20-minute dhoni ride. The 110 villas are split between the beach and the lagoon: 44 Beach Villas, 14 Semi-Detached Beach Villas, eight two-bedroom Beach Villa Suites of 178 m², and 44 Water Villas, half facing the sunrise and half the sunset. Over the past year the resort has re-roofed and refurbished all of its Water Villas, replaced the roofs on selected beach villas, widened the beach by 10 to 15 metres, laid a new pool deck and rebuilt the roof and interior of the Vilu Bar. Malaafaiy, beside the pool with lagoon views, serves buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner. The resort's landmark pyramid-shaped pavilion over the lagoon holds the Alfresco Restaurant, with an à la carte menu, and the Vilu Bar. Floating breakfasts, drift-and-dine evenings and private beach dinners can be arranged. The spa has four suites overlooking the lagoon, and the dive centre runs courses in several languages and trips to more than 30 dive sites in Meemu. Evenings bring DJ, karaoke and movie nights and Bodu Beru drumming. All-inclusive, full-board and half-board meal plans are available.
