The resort
LUX* Le Morne sits at the foot of Le Morne mountain on the wild west coast of Mauritius, facing the lagoon on what the resort calls the island's prettiest beach. The interiors are by Mauritian architect Jean Marc Tang and run to a pale palette of neutral tones, natural materials and plants, with white shutters, standalone matte bathtubs and sundecks between bedroom and beach. There are five swimming pools, a spa and fitness centre, a dive centre and tennis courts. Sustainability is built into the operation: an on-site desalination plant supplies all of the resort's water, and it runs zero-food-waste, plant-based-menu and no-single-use-plastic programmes. The Black River gorges, well-known surf and kitesurf breaks and a resident dolphin habitat are all close by.
