The resort
Hondaafushi Island Resort is the only resort on Hondaafushi, a 59-hectare island in Haa Dhaalu Atoll in the far north of the Maldives. Guests fly 50 minutes from Malé on a domestic flight, then take a 10-minute speedboat to the island. More than 5 km of white-sand beach and a turquoise lagoon run around the island, and all 79 bungalows sit on the beachfront: 33 Superior Beach Bungalows, 20 Sunset Superior Bungalows, 24 Deluxe Beach Bungalows and two Family Bungalows for up to six guests. Every bungalow has a king bed, a sitting area, a sundeck with a day bed and a bathroom with bathtub and shower. Meals are served as international buffets at the Main Restaurant, an open-air pavilion on the beach. Thila Bar, beside the pool at the tip of the island, serves drinks under the palms with open ocean views, and private beach dinners can be arranged. The garden spa offers treatments that combine modern and traditional therapies. Hondaafushi Diving runs courses for all levels in several languages and takes divers to little-visited sites in Haa Dhaalu. Excursions include dolphin and shark-watching safaris, snorkelling, sandbank and desert-island trips, sunset and sunrise fishing, and a trip to nearby Utheemu. All-inclusive, full-board and half-board meal plans are available.
