Stay Mikado is a small guesthouse on the local island of Thimarafushi in Thaa Atoll, one of the less-visited Central Atolls roughly 200 km south of Malé. The island has its own domestic airport, and most guests reach the guesthouse by a flight from Velana International Airport to Thimarafushi followed by a short transfer; a slower public ferry between Veymandoo and Thimarafushi also operates several days a week. Accommodation is compact, with 12 standard rooms and 2 family suites, each fitted with air-conditioning, en-suite bathroom, kettle, safe, mini-bar, flat-screen TV and private terrace, and a rooftop terrace is used for evening yoga. The kitchen runs a full-board menu spanning Western, Asian and local Maldivian dishes. Stay Mikado is best known as a surf base: the Mikado right-hander is on the house reef, and the guesthouse organises boat trips to several uncrowded Thaa Atoll reef breaks, running from March to November on the southwest swell. Snorkelling, diving, fishing and sandbank excursions are also arranged in-house, making it a natural choice for surfers, intermediate divers and small groups wanting a quiet off-the-beaten-path local-island stay.
