Canareef Resort Maldives, in the southern Seenu (Addu) Atoll, has been nominated in two categories at the World Travel Awards 2026: Indian Ocean's Leading Dive Resort and Maldives' Leading Dive Resort.
The nominations spotlight Addu's distinctive diving. The resort sits minutes from the British Loyalty, a 140-metre WWII wreck that is the largest in the Maldives and now a thriving artificial reef, while Addu is noted as the one location where adult oceanic manta rays are seen year-round regardless of season. Its 'Shark Point' draws photographers for the grey reef sharks resting on the sandy bottom.
As one of the few resorts south of the Equator, Canareef also points to Addu's comparatively healthy, unbleached reefs. The resort frames the recognition as a wider spotlight on the southern atolls and a case for tourism beyond the better-known north.
