This July, Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru and Dhawa Ihuru reaffirm their long-standing commitment to protecting the Maldives through a month of conservation initiatives that inspire guests to become active...
Banyan Tree Vabbinfaru and Dhawa Ihuru are observing Plastic Free July by hosting a series of environmental initiatives aimed at mitigating the significant waste challenges facing the Maldives. Throughout the month, guests are encouraged to join weekly beach and reef cleanups organized by the resorts' marine laboratories. These efforts are complemented by workshops with a local NGO that demonstrate how recovered plastic can be repurposed into functional art and jewelry. Located in the North Malé Atoll, these properties utilize their dive centers and proximity to diverse marine life to facilitate hands-on guest engagement in conservation.
The resorts are also marking specific environmental observances, including Shark Awareness Day on July 14 and International Mangrove Conservation Day on July 26. Collaborations with experts from the NGO Miyaru will highlight the ecological necessity of shark populations, while a partnership with the Huraa Council will focus on mangrove restoration to support coastal resilience and biodiversity.
