Tiger shark dive
The reason to come: a near-guaranteed, year-round encounter with tiger sharks in 8–10 m of water, minutes from the harbour.
The island
Fuvahmulah breaks every Maldivian rule. It is the country's only one-island atoll — a single landmass standing alone in the deep south, rimmed not by a shallow lagoon but by walls that drop straight into the open ocean. That geography, and a UNESCO Biosphere designation, make it unlike anywhere else in the archipelago.
It is, above all, a diver's pilgrimage. Fuvahmulah is the one place on the planet where tiger sharks are encountered year-round, on near-guaranteed dives a short boat ride from the harbour — and the same deep blue serves up thresher sharks, scalloped hammerheads, oceanic mantas and pelagics that simply don't show up in the calm central atolls.
Back on land it surprises again: volcanic soil, taro fields and coconut groves, two rare freshwater lakes you can kayak, and Thoondu — a beach of smooth white pebbles and seasonal turquoise surf found nowhere else in the Maldives. It is the wild, big-animal, end-of-the-map Maldives.
What to do
The reason to come: a near-guaranteed, year-round encounter with tiger sharks in 8–10 m of water, minutes from the harbour.
The open-ocean drop-offs deliver thresher and hammerhead sharks, oceanic mantas and big pelagic action.
Kayak, birdwatch or take a mud bath at Bandaara Kilhi — the largest freshwater lake in the Maldives — and Dhadimagi Kilhi.
A rare white-pebble shoreline with natural tidal pools and seasonal surf — a beach like no other in the country.
Taro fields, coconut groves and a proud southern culture that feels a world away from the resort atolls.
Beneath the surface
Fuvahmulah's signature site by the harbour — tiger sharks at 8–10 m, year-round, on one of diving's most reliable big-animal encounters.
Early, deep blue-water dives on the outer reef for pelagic thresher sharks and schooling scalloped hammerheads.
Sheer walls into deep water bring oceanic mantas, silvertips and seasonal whale sharks to a true big-blue arena.

Location & access

Fuvahmulah is reached in ~1h 15m domestic flight from Malé. We book the transfer with your stay so the airport connection is seamless.
Getting around
Fuvahmulah is large for a single island — too far to walk end-to-end, so guesthouses provide bicycles, scooters or taxi transfers to the lakes, Thoondu and the dive harbour.
Best time to visit
Year-round for tiger sharks — they're resident in every season. January–April brings the best visibility (up to 60 m) and calmest conditions for the deeper pelagic dives.
