Are you still dreaming of the Maldives? The tropical paradise is once again hot in the tourism market as guesthouses, hotels, and resorts prepare to welcome their guests once more.
Since the re-opening of borders in July, the country has seen a record over 56,000 tourist arrivals. Statistics show the Maldives to be a favorite among Russian and Indian guests since the Maldives lifting lockdown.
Since the reopening, Russia has been the top source market for tourism with over 16,000 arrivals. This is followed by India (9,200+), the United Kingdom (5,300+), the United States of America (5,200+) and the United Arab Emirates (4,500).
In an effort to promote the tropical destination, Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC) has launched a campaign titled, “Rediscover the Maldives…the sunny side of life.” The corporation has announced to bring over Indian influencers and Russian Press, and are currently looking for resorts to accommodate their stay.
Currently, there are over 15 airlines in operation. It is estimated that over 18 airlines will resume operations and increase the connectivity between the Maldives and the rest of the world. Tourist arrival rates have slowly started picking up and as more and more airlines are commencing operations to different corners of the world.
Minister of Tourism Honorable Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has revealed ambitious plans to reach 2 million tourist arrivals to the Maldives by the year 2023
